Sex after baby shouldn't hurt, but here's why it might

Hey gals! September is Sexual Health Awareness Month and so I wanted to talk about one of the most common things that I treat in my postpartum moms. PAIN WITH SEX.

Postpartum pain with intercourse is NOT NORMAL but it IS COMMON.

Here are some reasons why sex might hurt.
-Scar tissue due to perineal tearing during birth.
-Pelvic floor muscle tension.
-Pain/spasm cycle. (Penetration hurts so your body guards).
-Decreased lubrication due to lower estrogen levels (especially if breastfeeding).
-Decreased libido due to hormonal changes, lack of sleep etc.

* This can occur even if you have had a c-section!!
* All of the above applies to > 6 weeks postpartum.

Most of the time, these issues can be fairly easily and quickly treated.
Let your OB/midwife know and get in to see a pelvic PT:) If you have any questions about this topic, I offer a free consultation you can schedule through the website.
