SHOULD I SEE A PELVIC PT BEFORE I GIVE BIRTH
Many expectant mothers wonder this.
While not currently considered a standard part of childbirth preparation, you may find it very beneficial. Here are some of the things we, (as Pelvic PTs) can help you with as you prepare for labor:
✨Instruction on how to relax and lengthen your pelvic floor muscles to support a shorter and more efficient second stage of labor.
✨Breathing and pushing techniques that help your body work effectively during the pushing process.
✨Instruction on perineal massage that you can perform in your last weeks of pregnancy to help your pelvic floor muscles be soft and relaxed for labor and minimize perineal tearing.
✨Education on stretches to open and relax your hips and pelvis pre-labor as well as during labor.
A session or two with a Pelvic PT can help you feel more prepared and more in touch with your body and its role in labor as well as what to expect in those early days and weeks after delivery.
If you have any questions about labor preparation or what a Pelvic PT can assist with, don't hesitate to reach out:)
